SOS Children's Villages-USA, Inc. is a nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC that raises funds for SOS Children's Villages International. These funds go to over 500 SOS villages in 135 countries around the world to provide permanent, loving homes for orphaned or abandoned children. Each home is part of a village, and each child has a loving mother -- often for the first time in his or her life. Beyond creating and sustaining villages, SOS also supports emergency relief, schools, social programs and medical facilities worldwide.

Job Description

SOS-USA is in the process of developing its strategic plan to cover 2018-2022. The Summer MBA Fellow will act as Project Manager supporting key activities within the strategic planning process. The candidate must have a strong background in consulting, strategy development, and financial planning and project management. He/she will report to the COO.

The Summer MBA Fellow will focus on the following areas:

  • Project Management He/she will help to create project plans, track progress, and ensure all stakeholders are completing and receiving deliverable according to the set deadlines.
  • Benchmarking The MBA Fellow will research and analyze SOS-USA's current position within the international child support agencies based in the USA. 
  • Financial Planning  He/she will look at SOS-USA's performance over the last five years and help analyze which revenue streams have the highest ROI and future potential for the organization. 
  • Stakeholder Input He/she will interview staff members, donors, board members, partners and other key stakeholders to get a holistic perspective of SOS-USA's role and opportunities.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation He/she will help develop tools for tracking progress over the 5-year implementation period to allow SOS-USA to measure progress and ensure that milestones in the plan are met. 


Craig Sarsony, Chief Operating Officer

Craig leads the operations of the organization with focus on strategic and financial planning, in support of the Organization's mission. Previously he was the Director of Financial Planning & Analysis for Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF), Vice President for Finance and Administration at the Grameen Foundation, and prior to that was the Vice President for Finance and Administration at the Eurasia Foundation. Earlier in his career, he had a variety of financial management positions at Save the Children (in the Dominican Republic) and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Craig received MBA and MPH degrees from Columbia University.   


  • MBA candidate (required)
  • Candidate must present proof of authorization to work in the United States
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively on multiple projects
  • Strong analytical skills, including financial analysis, synthesis of ambiguous data, and ability to identify key issues and risks
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Knowledge of nonprofit organizational and financial challenges
