The Opportunity

You will be an integral member of the SOS USA Partnerships Team, researching grant opportunities, writing proposals, and raising funds to support children without parental care in 138 countries and territories around the world. The Partnerships Team builds strategic collaborations with foundations, corporations and institutions to promote the care, safety, education and economic well being of children and young people. Together, we build trust and relevance with key audiences to position the organization's efforts for long-term successful fundraising, collaboration, growth and influence.

Specifically, your role focuses on prospecting and writing compelling concepts and proposals reflecting innovative programs and initiatives. Our goal is to secure multi-million dollar, multi-year foundation and corporate revenue to advance the mission of providing a loving home for every child worldwide. Your responsibility will be to identify and introduce new funding opportunities and develop winning proposal submissions in collaboration with country offices. You will be the voice of SOS USA's institutional donors and ensure that their funds for SOS programs are being monitored, evaluated, and executed per scope and investment. You will help the institutional investors of SOS USA see the value of their investments and ensure that the impacts of their donations are documented and shared.

This position is a fully remote position with generous flexibility and PTO benefits.

Responsibilities:

  • Writes compelling grant proposals that engage prospective funders and result in 6- and 7figure grants.
  • Researches and identifies grant prospects at the national and international level.
  • Produces compelling stories and data visualizations to convey program impact. Develop and maintain a 'story bank' of donor profiles and constituent impact stories for various applications.
  • Determines proposal concept by identifying and clarifying opportunities and needs, studying requests for proposal (RFPs), attending strategy meetings, participating in relevant staff meetings, and developing a strong understanding of the organization's work, programs, priorities, innovations, history, mission, and results.
  • Improves proposal-writing outcomes by evaluating and re-designing processes, approach, coordination, and templates.
  • Manages funder search platforms and updates prospecting pipeline weekly.
  • Processes grant acknowledgments and agreements; tracks and submits grant reports on time.
  • Brings excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated history of appropriately handling communication with high-net worth donors and/or foundation representatives.
  • Commits to aspire for and maintain, report, and respond to the required conduct of the Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy of SOS International.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or above preferred in Communications, Journalism, Media, Non-Profit Management, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5-years' demonstrated track record of successful grant writing, prospect research, and securing fundraising six to seven figures with foundation, corporate and government partners; USAID experience strongly preferred.
  • Compelling writing skills, including use of storytelling, data analysis, and ability to produce succinct summaries, is required. Please include a fundraising writing example in your application.
  • Understanding of donor market tools and trends, and a willingness to research markets outside typical scope and internationally
  • Knowledge of prospect research resources and best practices,
  • Demonstrates internal drive and ability to self-manage in a fully remote work setting, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and, ability to engage in strategic planning and process improvement.
  • Entrepreneurial attitude including drive for results and proven ability to stay focused on goals; ability to prioritize competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to follow processes and high attention to detail.
  • Strong computer and Internet proficiency, including but not limited to Microsoft Office.
  • High professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information.
